Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi in a message released on Monday congratulated new chief of the Islamic Republic New Agency (IRNA) Seyyed Zia Hashemi on his appointment.

Qasemi in his message pointed to Hashemi's high experience in executive and scientific fields, and said that 'I hope, during your tenure, we would witness increase of cooperation and interactions between IRNA and the foreign ministry.'

The official called for improvement of cooperation between IRNA and Foreign Ministry to promote media diplomacy and safeguard national interests.

Qasemi wished the new IRNA chief all the best in carrying out his new responsibility.

Hashemi, born in 1967, replaced Mohammad Khoddadi who resigned last week. Khoddadi was appointed as IRNA chief on September 16, 2013 by former Culture Minister Ali Jannati.
