Iranian top diplomat Ali Akbar Salehi announced on Thursday that Tehran along with the Syrian people and other resistant nations of the region are looking forward to the appointment of an impartial UN envoy on Syria to prevent any further spread of violence in the country.

"The great Syrian nation and other resistant nations of the region are waiting for the UN secretary-general to play his basic role and immediately appoint an impartial representative to prevent any further massacre, violence and increased bloodshed in Syria," Salehi said, addressing the inauguration ceremony of the international consultative conference on the developments in Syria in Tehran Thursday.

He further mentioned that extension of the mission of international observers in Syria until the establishment of tranquility and stability in the country is the least the world can do for the Syrian nation.

The international consultative conference on the developments in Syria started work in Tehran on Thursday in the presence of representatives of several world and regional states and international organizations.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.

Hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes.

The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.

In October, calm was eventually restored in the Arab state after President Assad started a reform initiative in the country, but Israel, the US and its Arab allies are seeking hard to bring the country into chaos through any possible means. Tel Aviv, Washington and some Arab capitals have been staging various plots in the hope of stirring unrests in Syria once again.

The Zionist regime along with the US, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar have been supporting terrorists and rebel groups in Syria and have practically brought a UN peace initiative into failure to bring President Assad's government into collapse.
