Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, in a message on Wednesday, congratulated the Leader of the World Catholics, Pope Francis, on the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ and the start of the new Christian Year, and hoped for peaceful days in this year.

According to a statement released by the Media Department of the Presidential Office, Rouhnai in his message wished that the new Christian year would be the year of empathy, friendship, peace and tranquility for the entire human community.

“I hope you, in the highly esteemed position of the pope, will be able to succeed in helping the spread of peace, alleviation of poverty and guiding the world which is infested with violence, discrimination and extremism towards tranquility, justice and moderation,” the Iranian president said.

“What makes me and other believers in religions of faith hopeful about materialization of peace, freedom and justice is your long track record in believing in the need for dialogue among civilizations,” Rouhani said.

The Iranian president underlined that the birth anniversaries of the Jesus Christ and all other prophets provide an opportunity for reinvigorating the grounds for mutual respect among religions and their inter alia dialogue.

The Iranian president hoped for continued health, success, happiness and prosperity for the pope and all followers of the Jesus Christ in the world.

Christmas is an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ and a widely observed cultural holiday, celebrated generally on December 25 by millions of people around the world.
