Senior Iranian nuclear negotiator Seyyed Abbas Araqchi says Iran and the Sextet of world powers may resume talks in February.

It had been previously agreed that with the start of the implementation of the first step of the Geneva deal, negotiations would begin shortly on the final step, said the Iranian deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, addressing the next step on Iran and the P5+1 (permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany)'s agenda, ISNA reported on Monday.

He said our interpretation was that the negotiations would resume in February, adding that Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton had to talk on the time, place, level, and manner of the negotiations.

The negotiations would probably be decided on, over the next days at a potential meeting on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland or the Munich Security Conference next week, he said.

Araqchi said, "At the meeting between Ashton and Zarif, the agenda of the talks and how to continue the negotiations, will be discussed."

As part of the interim deal clinched last November between Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council - Russia, China, France, Britain, and the US - plus Germany in Geneva, Iran suspended 20-percent uranium enrichment as of Monday January 20. Iran also started the process to dilute and oxidize its 196-kg stockpile of 20-percent-enriched uranium.

The Geneva accord is aimed at setting the stage for the full resolution of the decade-old standoff over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.
