Iran's President Hassan Rouhani and the newly-appointed Laotian ambassador to Iran, in a meeting today, stressed the need for both Tehran and Vientiane to make use of their capacities to pave the way for the enhancement of bilateral ties.

President Rouhani, in the meeting, said that Tehran has always been determined to boost political and economic ties with the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

He further added that Iran-ASEAN cooperation in international bodies like the United Nations would help promote mutual relations.

The Iranian president also believed ground should be prepared for further activities of private sector companies in either country.

The Laotian diplomat, for his part, said that his government and nation attach high importance to the history of mutual relations.

Pointing to the ASEAN economic capacities, he welcomed boosting of ties with Iran.

Iran has on many occasions underlined its resolve to expand mutual cooperation with friendly countries.
