Cuban Ambassador to Tehran said that Iran and Cuba enjoy great relations under President Hassan Rouhani, expressing hope that Iran will expand ties with Latin America.

Vladimir Andrés González Quesada said, “Currently the bilateral relations between Cuba and Iran are excellent. The Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif and President Hassan Rouhani paid official visits to Havana in August and September 2016, respectively.”

Quesada added, “These two visits, together with others carried out by Cuban authorities to Tehran, helped to consolidate political and diplomatic relations between the two countries and also to boost their economic-trade links. For this reason, the 16th session of the Intergovernmental Commission Cuba-Iran took place in Havana last February 2017.”

He also stated that the Cuban authorities welcomed the recent re-election of President Rouhani for his second term and he was congratulated by his Cuban counterpart, Army General Raul Castro Ruz.

“I believe President Rouhani and the next Iranian government should continue their efforts to expand relations with Latin America in all spheres, including Cuba,” Quesada added.
