Regional countries are trying to find new methods to counter terrorism in the Middle East, Iran Majlis (Parliament) speaker Ali Larijani said.

Larijani made the remarks Saturday before leaving for Islamabad.

Describing the previous endeavors in fighting terrorism as 'unsuccessful', Larijani said, 'Due to the presence of active agents in the region, the regional countries have to look for new methods to uproot terrorism.'

Along with participating in the conference, Ali Larijani will hold bilateral meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Sardar Ayaz Sadiq to discuss Iran-Pakistan ties, regional and international developments. He is also expected to hold some important meetings with Pakistani officials.

Speakers from Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Russia and Turkey are participating in the conference along with their respective parliamentary delegations.

The conference will enable the participating countries to engage in meaningful discussions to explore common means of combating terrorism, maintaining peace and enhancing connectivity of people and states

It emphasizes need to develop not only road connectivity but setting up banks, gas and oil pipelines and promoting economic and trade ties.
