Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has referred to Iran's water rights to the Helmand River and stressed the need for the full implementation of a 1973 water-sharing bilateral treaty.

During a phone call with Afghanistan’s Caretaker Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi on Saturday, Amirabdollahian pointed to the recent visit of the technical delegation from the Iranian Ministry of Energy to Afghanistan, noting that such visits based on the Helmand Treaty of 1973 would help us to witness more transparency.

Referring to the release of an Iranian media photographer, the top Iranian diplomat called for solving the issues of Iran’s water rights.

Tehran stresses the cooperation of all parties inside Afghanistan for reaching stability, security, and prosperity for the Afghan people, Amirabdollahian underlined.

Muttaqi, for his part, thanked Iran and said that efforts are underway to resolve some problems.

He invited Amirabdollahian to pay a visit to Kabul, adding that Kabul-Tehran ties are based on neighboring and brotherly relations.
