A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck northwest of Herat in Afghanistan at a depth of 7 kilometers, and it was felt in the eastern cities of the Khorasan Razavi province of Iran, including Mashhad.
The quake was also felt in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
A few minutes later, another 5.6-magnitude earthquake shook the area at a depth of 20 kilometers.
There have been no immediate reports of possible casualties or damages to buildings so far.
