Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref extended condolences to the families of the victims of widespread wildfires in southern California.

"In today's interconnected world, one person's pain is everyone's pain; we extend our condolences to all those affected by the wildfires in California and pray for a speedy recovery," Aref wrote on his X account on Saturday.

"It is necessary to take urgent measures at the global level to solve and deal with crises, whether it is the genocide and crimes of the occupying regime in Gaza or the crisis caused by climate change like what we are seeing today in the destructive fires in California," he added.

Fatemeh Mohajerani, the Iranian government’s spokeswoman, also expressed sympathy with people in Los Angeles, California, over the devastating wildfires which officials say have so far left 11 people dead and destroyed entire communities over 39,000 acres of land.

“Humanity cannot remain indifferent to the destruction of homes and natural resources in other nations, whether caused by war or the wrath of nature. Compassion for our fellow humans is not confined to any specific corner of the world,” Mohajerani said on X social media on Saturday.

“We sympathize with you, the people of California, who have been separated from your homes and safe living environments. We share your sorrow for your burned and destroyed homes and belongings. We stand with you as you endure the devastation of these wildfires brought about by climate change, and we are reminded of the grief of thousands displaced by the selfishness and warmongering of others,” she continued in her post, concluding it with a famous piece from the great Persian poet, Saadi.

“From the depths of our hearts, we believe in the timeless words of the great Persian poet: “Human beings are members of a whole, In creation of one essence and soul. If one member is afflicted with pain, Other members uneasy will remain.”
