Secretary-General of Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement, Sheikh Naim Qassem, has criticized US President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza, calling it a dangerous move to exonerate Israel from its crimes and part of the occupying regime’s expansionist agenda.

Addressing a ceremony to commemorate the first anniversary of the martyrdom of the two top Hezbollah commanders, Sheikh Nabil Qawouk and Sayyed Suhail Al-Husseini, on Saturday, Sheikh Qassem warned that the US is assisting the Tel Aviv regime in realizing its dream of the so-called “Greater Israel.”

“What is happening in Gaza today is part of the ‘Greater Israel’ plan that is being pursued with the full support of the United States,” he said in reference to Trump's 20-point Gaza ceasefire plan, which critics say is heavily skewed in Israel's favor and ignores Palestinian realities.

The Hezbollah chief emphasized that everything in the region is interconnected and the war on Gaza over the past two years is an inseparable part of Israel’s expansionist project, stressing that “Trump’s plan is completely consistent with Israel's interests. A project they want to realize through politics, what they failed to achieve through aggression and crimes."

Every step that seems to be a “tactical return” is, in fact, a “tactical retreat” of the enemy to exploit the situation for specific purposes, Sheikh Qassem added.

Exonerating Israel amid the widespread global anger, especially through the United Nations, as well as popular reactions in America and European countries, is another part of the plan to embellish the regime’s image, he said, adding that the Global Samud Flotilla from dozens of countries indicated the degeneration Israel has reached.

He also warned the regional countries against the US-backed Israeli aggression, calling the attacks on Iran, the Islamic resistance, and Palestine part of a single battle that “we must confront based on our capabilities, and remove this danger, because the Israeli project will gradually reach everyone.”

Elsewhere in his speech, the Hezbollah chief emphasized the continuation of the path of resistance, recalling sacrifices made by resistance leaders and commanders for the defense of the Lebanese and Palestinian people.

Addressing the domestic issues, he warned about the scope of threats, and said that Lebanon was “in the heart of the storm” as a result of the US-backed Israeli aggression on every aspect of life, being conducted to pressure the resistance and the Lebanese people and weaken the country
