Deputy Head of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Esmail Kowsari said on Sunday that the UAE claims on Abu Musa Island are the words of Washington and London.
“We know that these remarks by Emirati authorities are not their own words and have been dictated by the US and UK and therefore we do not take it seriously but if it is the official position of the Emiratis we will deal with them decisively so that they will not utter such things again,” he said
Kowsari also censured the US State Department’s comments about President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s recent visit to the Abu Musa Island.
The Americans should know that if they continue to meddle in Iran’s territorial affairs, the Islamic Republic will give them a response that will make them regret their actions.
In a statement issued on April 17, State Department Deputy Spokesman Mark Toner said, “Actions such as the April 11 visit by Iranian President Ahmadinejad to the Abu Musa Island only complicate efforts to settle the issue.”
On April 11, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited the Iranian Island of Abu Musa in the Persian Gulf as part of his tour of the southern Iranian province of Hormozgan.
On the same day, UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan criticized the visit as a "violation of UAE sovereignty over its territories."
The islands of the Greater Tunb, the Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa have historically been part of Iran, proof of which can be found and corroborated by countless historical, legal, and geographical documents in Iran and other parts of the world.
However, the United Arab Emirates has repeatedly laid baseless claims to the islands.
