Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said identities of two people arrested in Kenya are not known to Iran.

“The identities of these people are not yet known to us and the Iranian embassy in Nairobi is seeking to obtain information and a consular visit,” Mehmanparast said Saturday.

“As long as the identities of these persons are not obtained, we cannot make any comment about this matter,” he said adding, "Given the good and brotherly relations between Iran and Kenya, it appears that certain circles and foreign media are trying to undermine the relations by evoking such information and accusations.”

Ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Kenya as two important and independent countries in the Middle East and East Africa have been developed significantly over recent years. Also Iranian First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi traveled to the African county last month.

Kenyan police said they arrested one of the Iranians last Wednesday and the other on Thursday to interrogate them on alleged involvement in terrorism activities. Kenyan officials have not identified the two.
