Addressing a group of students at Shriraz University on Sunday, Hashemi stressed that undermining the national unity does not benefit the country, because the Islamic republic was also achieved under the shadow of unity and coherence, Khabar Online reported.
Former Iranian president also said that the solidarity and coherence inside the country could foil the plots of the enemies of the Islamic Republic.
Reconsidering the experience of the republic, eight-year Iraq-imposed war and other aspects could promote the national unity in the country and among people and officials, Hashemi also said. He added that the presidential election next year will be an opportunity to counter threats against the country if efforts are made to promote national unity.
The senior Iranian cleric further pointed out that legal, transparent and free conduct of all stages of the upcoming presidential election would increase hopes and confidence in the country and help putting an end to the pressures from the enemies.
Responding to the question over Iran’s nuclear energy program, Hashemi emphasized that all nations, including the Islamic Republic, have the right to use the nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, and that the issue has been part of Iran’s principle for the past decades.
Khabar Online-Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has called for promotion of national unity, as the country has won the Islamic Revolution through such unity and coherence as well as the leadership of Imam Khomeini.
