Russian imports of Iranian products during May 2012 have increased by seven percent over the same period last year.

Russia’s trade representative to Iran, Sobolkof Alexandrovich, said during a meeting on Iranian-Russian regional trade collaboration that the imports included fresh fruit, petrochemical products, and cement--all of which increased from the year before.

“We’ve imported seven times more ceramic products and 67 times more cement than we imported last year,” he said.

Alexandrovich added that in 2011, Russia imported $3.8 billion in products from Iran, but he expects business transactions to more than double in the coming year.

“In spite of Europe’s economic crisis, we’ve successfully managed to maintain the volume of our trade [with Iran],” he said. “Given the friendly relationship of our two neighboring countries, it’s possible to expand this figure to at least $10 billion this year.”
