Ground forces of the Iranian army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) are scheduled to stage two massive wargames in the next few months, a senior Army commander announced on Tuesday.

"We will have two joint wargames with our brothers in the IRGC," Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan told FNA.

The first exercise will be held in Southeastern Iran and will mainly be a drill for armored units and a test of new armored equipments, the commander said.

As regards the second maneuver, Pourdastan said his forces are currently studying various regions to find the best zone for the wargames, adding that they will likely be held in "Central Iran or along the country's Western borders".

"The second exercise pertains to airborne drills and will be the first massive airborne exercises after the Islamic Revolution," Pourdastan noted.

In May, Lieutenant Commander of the Army's Ground Force Brigadier General Kioumars Heidari stated that the Iranian Army plans to unveil and put into operation Iran's first home-made Cobra chopper in special wargames of the Army's Airborne unit in the near future.

The commander further announced that different types of anti-chopper and anti-armor weapons will be tested in the wargames.

Iran's Army and IRGC hold regular wargames to practice combat tactics and also test new home-made military tools, equipment and weapons in action.
