Severance of Canada's ties with Tehran will inflict much damage and loss on the British colony, a senior Iranian lawmaker said, adding that the decision proves Ottawa's obedience to Zionist regime of Israel.

"The measure has been taken by Canada due to its helplessness and loss of balance and proves that Canada is not an independent country," Vice-Chairman of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mansour Haqiqatpour told FNA on Sunday.

"Iran doesn't need ties with Canada," Haqiqatpour underscored.

He noted that Canada is a country supervised and controlled by the UK as its governor is appointed by London, and stated that severance of relations with the Islamic Republic proves Ottawa's support and obedience to Israel.

The Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission plans to start discussions about the latest developments in the country's relations with Canada in coming days.

Iran-Canada relations will top the agenda of the commission meeting on Tuesday which will be attended by relevant officials from the government and commission members.

Five Canadian diplomats left Iran last Friday (September 8) and closed the embassy in a sudden move, suspending ties with Tehran.

The two sides already had low-level diplomatic ties that made it almost impossible for them to do useful work.
