“We warn the Zionist regime [Israel] that … if they seek to implement their threats, these threats will only lead to their sooner destruction,” Salehi told reporters on Friday on the sidelines of a ceremony to mark the 32nd anniversary of eight years of defense against Iraq's invasion of the country under executed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
He added that the Israeli regime’s threats against Iran are an indication of Tel Aviv’s incapacity and disability.
The Israeli threats against Iran are based on unfounded claims that the peaceful nuclear energy activities of the Islamic Republic have been diverted to the acquisition of atomic weapon capability.
Iranian officials have rejected the allegation, and have promised a crushing response to any military strike against the country.
On September 19, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said the Islamic Republic has enhanced its defensive military capabilities to an extent that it can obliterate the Israeli regime.
“The defense capability of the Islamic Iran against threats by the Zionist regime (Israel) has been developed to an extent that it will be able to wipe the [Israeli] regime off the scene,” Vahidi said.
Salehi further emphasized that a major military parade held on Friday on the occasion of the beginning of the 'Sacred Defense Week' only displayed the Islamic establishment’s defense preparedness.
The parade pursues a deterrent strategy and conveys no meaning of a threat to other countries, the Iranian commander pointed out.
Saddam Hussein invaded Iran on September 22, 1980 in a war that dragged on for eight years.
The Sacred Defense Week commemorates the braveries of the Iranian soldiers who fought in the 1980-1988 Iraqi-imposed war and defended their country from enemy aggressions.
