A senior Iranian diplomat has slammed the recent assault against Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast in New York as a “premeditated plot.”

“This measure taken by the [terrorist] Mujahedin-e Khlaq Organization (MKO) was a premeditated plot,” said Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Hassan Qashqavi in a Sunday interview in the Iranian southern city of Bandar Kangan.

The Iranian diplomat lashed out at the US police, as the main party responsible for protecting foreign diplomats attending the UN meetings, for their weakness and indifference, adding, “This heinous act carried out by the lackeys of the US, namely the MKO cell, reveals the anger and fury of enemies over the power of the Islamic Republic in international arena,” he pointed out.

The MKO attack against the Iranian diplomat in a country, which claims to be advocating democracy and human rights, is in violation of international regulations and a blow to bogus claims of the [so-called] human rights advocates, Qashqavi added.

Supporters of Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) attacked Mehmanparast near the United Nations headquarters in the presence of New York City police on September 26.

New York City police and the US security forces made no arrests as the attackers physically abused members of the Iranian delegation accompanying Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in his visit to the United States to address the 67th session of the UN General Assembly.

The MKO is listed as a terrorist organization by much of the international community and has committed numerous terrorist acts against Iranians and Iraqis.

However, the United States formally removed the anti-Iranian MKO terrorist group from the US State Department's list of terrorist organizations on September 28, 2012.
