Internationally acclaimed Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami has been nominated for Best Director at the 7th Asian Film Awards in Hong Kong, known as Asia Oscar.

Kiarostami, renowned auteur, filmmaker, screenwriter and photographer, was selected to compete at Best Director category for his last movie Like Someone in Love.

The Japanese-language drama, which was co-produced by Japan's Eurospace and France's MK2, is about a contemporary relationship in today’s Japan.

The film depicts the unusual relationship between a student and a brilliant, elderly academic with a thematic concern in an impressive atmosphere. Japanese star Rin Takanashi plays as the young student and veteran actor Tadashi Okuno as the retired professor.

Premiered at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, Like Someone in Love has participated in some international festivals so far and has been screened in several countries such as France, Portugal and Japan.


Thirty movies from nine Asian countries compete in fourteen categories of the 2013 Asian Film Award. The Award ceremony is set to be held in the Grand Hall of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center on March 18.
