The 28th edition of Fajr International Music Festival has announced this year’s winners during a ceremony held in Tehran’s Vahdat Hall.

Baran Guitar Quartet led by Amid Asghari won the first prize of the classic section and the second prize of this category was presented to the Cadence String Quartet led by Pouya Bolouri.

The first award of traditional Iranian music section went to Qazvin Sama ensemble led by Fereydoun Mohammad Beigi while the Chang group led by Ramin Safaei won the second prize and Nasim music band led by Nasim Ahmadian received the third prize.

Several composers in various categories were also hailed at the festival’s award ceremony.

Hamid Moradian garnered the first prize of traditional Iranian music category for his work The Grieves of the Dancing Plain and the second prize of the section went to Hossein Khoshchehreh for The Town Pious, and Ali Omidi won the third prize for Hidden as Spirit.

The festival also lauded a flute quintet by Shervin Abbasi with the first prize in the classical music section while honorable mentions were dedicated to two string quartets by Javad Abraheh and Amin Rafiei.

Some 57 ensembles from over 70 submitted ones participated in this year’s festival.

The event was presented at six music halls in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.

Iran's Fajr International Music Festival is part of the country's cultural programs held every year to commemorate the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The 28th Fajr International Music Festival was held from February 13 to19, 2013.
