Iran's daily oil output reached 2.9 million barrels after it witnessed a 200,000-barrel increase in February 2013, an informed source said on Saturday.

An official at Iran's oil industry said that the country has increased its oil production capacity to 4.5mbpd.

"Fortunately, Iran's oil production status is improving day by day and over 200,000 barrels have been added to the volume of Iran's oil production in February," the source said on the condition of anonymity.

The source stated that Iran is now producing 2.9mbpd, adding that a major part of the produced crude is sent to the country's refineries to turn into oil products.

Iranian Oil Minister Rostam Qassemi announced in February that the country's hydrocarbon reserves have increased by 3bln barrels due to the discovery of new oil fields in the country.

"The planning for some new oil fields is complete and fortunately the country's exploitable hydrocarbon reserves have increased to 157bln barrels," Qassemi told reporters at the time.

In January, Iranian Deputy Oil Minister for Planning and Supervision on Hydrocarbon Reserves Mohsen Khojasteh Mehr said that now the country owns 330 hydrocarbon reservoirs that should be managed by deploying new techniques and scientific methods amid having in mind an evolution in oil industry through enforcing new techniques of enhancing oil recovery.

Over the fifth five year development plan, 57 oil fields have development plan and are authorized for investment, a positive point that will spur growth and development in Iran's oil industry, the official said.
