Iran's deputy minister of roads and urban development says over 3.39 million tons of commodities were transited through Iran during the first quarter of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2013), which is an 11 percent rise compared to the same three-month period in the previous year.

Shahriyar Afandizadeh told reporters on Friday that 3.22 million tons of oil and non-oil products were transited through Iran by road, which was 95 percent of the total, in spring 2013, while the remaining five percent, totaling 176,000 tons, was transported by rail.

There was a 15.6 percent rise in the transit of goods by road in spring 2013 compared to spring 2012, he noted.

Afandizadeh also stated that 1.63 million tons of the commodities were oil products, while 1.76 million tons were non-oil products, such as cotton, construction materials, and home appliances.

He went on to say that the Parviz Khan border crossing in the western city of Qasr-e Shirin was the most active entry port, through which 1.25 million tons of goods were imported.

And Bandar Imam Khomeini in southern Iran was the most active exit port, through which 1.27 million tons of commodities were exported, he added.
