“Warships, missile launchers, including Paykan-class missile launching boats, and other vessels are currently being manufactured,” Rear Admiral Abbas Zamini, who is in charge of the Navy's technical affairs, said on Saturday.
“The efficiency and capability of Iranian Navy, as a strategic force which has the duty to protect the country’s interests in free and international waters, requires use of efficient, modern and up-to-date equipment and systems,” Zamini added.
The Iranian commander further stated that over the past few years, the Navy has tried to meet its needs by designing and manufacturing new vessels, such as Jamaran and Damavand destroyers, and overhauling old ones including Bayandor destroyer.
In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.
Iran's Navy launched renovated Shaheed Bayandor destroyer on June 11. Jamaran-2, a Mowj-class warship which joined the country’s naval forces on March 16, has been designed and built by Iranian experts using state-of-the-art navigation equipment and complex defensive systems.
The country’s first indigenously-built destroyer, Jamaran, was launched in the waters of the Persian Gulf in February 2010.
Tehran has repeatedly assured other countries that its military might poses no threat to other states, insisting that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
