"One of the main topics on the Munich agenda was the place of our country on meeting energy needs," Qassemi said in an interview following the Munich Security Conference earlier this month, and added, "The Islamic Republic of Iran guarantees transferring millions of barrels of oil from the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz indicating its importance in view of its geopolitical location, an issue that hardly can be ignored."
"In the Munich Conference, we stressed that unilateral sanctions imposed by the US were illegal and declared that even though the Islamic Republic of Iran has been able to run its oil industry and moves toward domestic manufacturing to meet its needs, the United States' illegal sanctions have jeopardized development of energy and its security around the world."
He went on to say that for some of the participants it was unbelievable that Islamic Republic of Iran is producing 630 million cubic meters of gas per day and is exploiting its hydrocarbon resources without reliance on foreign companies.
Pointing to the GECF summit held early July in Moscow, Qassemi said the conference decided that the price of natural gas should be linked to the price of crude oil and oil products, a subject that the upcoming GECF ministerial meeting in Tehran would discuss its practical mechanisms.
"Exaggerations on shale oil and shale gas and its related technology in the US will endanger the security of investment in global oil industry, a reality that many speakers put it in spotlight," the Iranian oil minister stated.
Chaired by MSC chairman, Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger, and F.A.Z. editor, Dr. Günther Nonnenmacher, the international conference "Energy Security – How to Feed and Secure the Global Demand?" brought together leading politicians, business executives and scientists to discuss the economic, environmental and security policy issues surrounding energy security in the 21st century.
