Kazakhstan has offered to host negotiations between Iran and the major powers over Tehran’s nuclear program, which Iran says is totally peacefully but the West suspects may have military dimensions

Almaty is keen to host a new round of nuclear talks, Kazakh Foreign Minister Erlan Idrisov said during a telephone conversation with the director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Ali Akbar Salehi, on Tuesday.

He also expressed hope that the dispute over Iran’s nuclear activities would be resolved as soon as possible.

Iran has held several rounds of nuclear talks with the six major powers, namely the United States, China, Russia, Britain, France, and Germany, which are known as the 5+1 group.

The talks have failed so far to make significant headway.

Almaty hosted two rounds of such talks in February and April 2013.
The main bone of contention between Tehran and the West is Iran’s uranium enrichment program.

Iran says all its nuclear activities are totally peaceful, and, as an IAEA member and a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, it has the legal right to produce nuclear fuel for its research reactors and nuclear power plants.
