The invitation was made as Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met with the Turkish president in Istanbul on Friday.
Gul also termed as significant the presence of the Iranian foreign minister in the 60th Pugwash Conference on Science and World Affairs in Istanbul.
Zarif, for his part, described Iran-Turkey relations as deep-rooted, friendly and brotherly, stressing that it is necessary to seriously pursue common goals.
He also pointed to the ongoing developments and concerns in the Middle East, and called on regional countries to exploit their potential and help resolve crises in the region.
In a meeting with Gul on the sidelines of the 68th annual session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 25, Rouhani said joint cooperation among regional countries to resolve the Syrian crisis would serve the interests of all nations.
“Iran and Turkey have numerous common interests and goals in the region, which should be utilized to improve their relations,” Rouhani stated.
Gul, for his part, said Iran plays a constructive role in resolving regional issues and urged all countries in the Middle East to forge closer cooperation in order to end the crisis in Syria.
