Iran President Hassan Rouhani says the Iranian nation supports negotiations and logic but will protect its rights.

“The Iranian people, alongside negotiations, will resist against foreign pressure and aggression by relying on national and domestic might,” Rouhani said at a Cabinet session on Sunday.

He added that the policy of the Iranian administration and people is based on fighting oppression, resistance, protecting national independence, as well as effective and constructive interaction with countries.

“Iranian negotiators with the P5+1 countries seek to restore the Iranian nation’s rights through logic and diplomacy and of course their red line is the people’s rights, the country’s independence ... and effective and constructive interaction with the world,” President Rouhani pointed out.

He expressed gratitude for Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s words of support for the Iranian team negotiating with the group of six major world powers.

On Sunday, Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to the ongoing nuclear negotiations between Iran and the UN Security Council's permanent members - Russia, China, France, Britain and the US - plus Germany and defended the Iranian negotiating team against criticism.

The Leader warned that no one should undermine or insult the negotiating team or label them as being inclined toward reaching a compromise over Iran's nuclear energy program.

The Iranian president further expressed hope that the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and other powers would make the best use of the opening recently created in Iran’s interaction with the world.

“Iranians have no hostility towards any nation including the Americans and will not in future have [hostility toward any nation]. The main issue which has been, and will be, a cause of concern is hostile policies which have been always condemned by the Iranian people,” the Iranian president stated.

“As has been previously announced, the Islamic Republic is quite serious in negotiations and intends to resolve its issues with the world with logic and reasoning within the framework of the Iranian nation’s absolute rights and based on mutual respect,” Rouhani added.
He called on negotiators with Iran to be serious in talks and said the Iranian negotiating team should also remain vigilant to take steps only aimed at protecting national rights.

The Iranian president also expressed optimism about the outcomes of the negotiations.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - Britain, China, France, Russia and the US - plus Germany held two days of negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear energy program in Geneva, Switzerland, on October 15-16. The two sides have agreed to meet again in the Swiss city on November 7-8.

Meanwhile, Iran and the IAEA wrapped up two days of negotiations in the Austrian capital, Vienna, on October 29, which was described afterwards by both sides as “very productive.”

Tehran and the UN nuclear agency agreed to hold the next round of the talks in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on November 11.
