Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi announced that Tehran will start implementing the Joint Plan of Action (the Geneva nuclear deal) concurrently with the world powers, stressing that Tehran will not halt the activities of its heavy water reactor in Arak.

“The plans have been decided to come into action concurrently as they (the world powers) have some plans for removing the sanctions; whenever they start their measures, we will begin fulfilling our commitments concurrently based on the Joint Plan of Action,” Salehi said in a televised interview with Iran’s state-run TV.

Asked if Tehran will close its heavy water installations in the Central city of Arak, he said, “No. Arak’s heavy water reactor will continue its work powerfully.”

Salehi said Iran has agreed with the demand of the Group 5+1 (the US, Russia, China, Britain and France plus Germany) to only decrease the speed of installing certain main parts in Arak heavy water installations in the next 6 months.

On November 24, Iran and the six world powers sealed an interim deal (the Joint Plan of Action) in the Swiss city of Geneva to lay the groundwork for the full resolution of the dispute between the West and Iran over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

In exchange for Iran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities, the six countries undertook to lift some of the existing sanctions against Tehran.
