An Iranian lawmaker has slammed remarks by US Secretary of State John Kerry about Washington’s military option against Iran, saying the US threatens the Islamic Republic under Israel pressure.

Spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran’s Majlis Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said on Friday, “These statements are indicative of the US double standards and will bring about nothing but tarnishing the US image.”

Speaking to Al-Arabiya on Thursday, Kerry said that if Iran resumes uranium enrichment beyond the five-percent level, “then the military option that is available to the United States is ready and prepared to do what it would have to do.”

Naqavi Hosseini pointed to Iran’s nuclear deal with six major powers and said, “Definitely, we also announce that if the P5+1 (five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) commit the least breach of the Geneva agreement, we will also have all the options on our table.”

“Under pressures by the Zionist lobby, the US adopts dual policies; on the one hand, they talk about agreement and positive relations with Iran, but on the other hand, they use an intimidating tone,” the Iranian lawmaker stated.

On January 12, Iran and the five permanent members of the Security Council - Russia, China, France, Britain, and the US - plus Germany agreed on January 20 as the date to start implementing the interim nuclear deal that the two sides struck in Geneva on November 24, 2013.

The accord is aimed at setting the stage for the full resolution of the decade-old standoff over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.
