An Iranian parliamentarian says Iran’s presence in the recent World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos has laid the groundwork for the attraction of foreign investment into the country.

“The talks in the Swiss [city of] Davos will have a major effect on the domestic economy and help boost the country’s economy and attract foreign investment,” said Abdolkarim Rajabi in a Sunday interview.

He noted that President Hassan Rouhani’s speech at the conference provided a very fertile ground for the promotion of economic ties between Iran and Europe.

The WEF Annual Meeting 2014 was held from January 22 to 25, with the theme of “The Reshaping of the World: Consequences for Society, Politics and Business.”

This year’s annual summit was aimed at developing the insights, initiatives and actions necessary to respond to current and emerging economic challenges.

The WEF is an independent international organization committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.

Rajabi further called for a reduction in economic recklessness in the country and noted, “We should make foreign investor feel secure, so the investors can enter the country without any concerns.”

He pointed to ample potentials in transportation and civil engineering fields in Iran, describing them as profit-making areas for foreign investors.

The lawmaker called for an improvement in the country’s economic situation by restraining inflation and liquidity as a way to enhance the security of foreign investment in the country.
