Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham voiced Tehran's pleasure in the formation of the new coalition government in Lebanon, and stressed that Iran fully supports this democratic path of governance which will strengthen sustainable peace and security in the Middle-Eastern country.

“This measure (formation of a compromise government) is the product of solidarity and understanding between all Lebanese tribes and groups,” Afkham said on Sunday.

Afkham congratulated the Lebanese officials and people on the breakthrough event and reaffirmed Iran’s continuing support for Lebanon’s stability and security.

She expressed hope that the formation of the new government will bring different tribes and political groups closer together and clear the way for development and prosperity in Lebanon.

On Saturday, Lebanon announced the formation of a compromise government government by Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam after a 10-month impasse, during which the war in neighboring Syria deepened longstanding political divisions.

Cabinet Secretary-General Souheil Bouji announced lineup, grouping the powerful Shiite movement Hezbollah and its allies with the Sunni-led bloc of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri.
