Speaker of the Provincial Assembly of Pakistan’s Balochistan Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali has promised to secure the release of the guards before the Persian New Year holidays (beginning March 21), said head of the Iran-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group Gholamreza Asadollahi.
The Iranian official held Pakistan accountable for the acts of terror committed from its territory.
The border guards were kidnapped in Jakigour region of the southeastern Iranian Sistan-and-Baluchestan Province on February 6 and taken to Pakistani territory.
The so-called Jaish-ul-Adl terrorist group claimed responsibility for the abductions.
Last week, in a meeting with Jamali in Tehran, Iran’s Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani warned that unhampered acts of sabotage by criminals along the Iran-Pakistan border can affect relations between the two countries.
According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the five abducted border guards are unharmed and in good health.
On October 25, 2013, Jaish-ul-Adl terrorists also killed 14 Iranian border guards and wounded six others in the border region near the city of Saravan in Sistan-and-Baluchestan Province.
In February 2013, Iran and Pakistan signed a security agreement under which both countries are required to cooperate in preventing and combating organized crime, fighting terrorism and countering the activities that pose a threat to the national security of either country.
