Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif has praised as “constructive” his latest discussions with visiting EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

In a short post on his Twitter account on Monday, the top Iranian diplomat said he held “constructive” talks with Ashton over Iran’s relations with the 28-nation European Union as well as the country’s ongoing nuclear negotiations with the P5+1 group – Russia, China, France, Britain, the US and Germany.

Heading a politico-economic delegation, the high-ranking EU official arrived in Tehran on Saturday and met with senior Iranian officials, including President Hassan Rouhani. Ashton is currently paying a visit to Iran’s historical city of Isfahan.

Ashton represents the P5+1 group in the nuclear talks with the Islamic Republic over its nuclear energy program.

In their Sunday meeting, Zarif and Ashton exchanged views on the latest developments regarding Iran’s nuclear talks with the other six countries. The two diplomats also explored ways to enhance Tehran-EU ties in various areas.
