Politics - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif described expansion of relations with Turkey as a main foreign policy agenda of Tehran, and said President Hassan Rouhani has a plan to pay an official visit to Ankara in the near future to explore new avenues for enhancement of cooperation between the two nations.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran's president will pay a visit to Turkey within next two months," Zarif told reporters on Friday while referring to the recent visit of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan to Tehran.

The Iranian foreign minister also pointed to very good Iran-Turkey relations, and said, "Ever since I was appointed as Iranian foreign minister, I have met my Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu eight times which indicates good relations between Tehran and Ankara."

The top diplomats of Iran, Turkey and Azerbaijan held a meeting on Friday to discuss new avenues for expanding all-out ties among the three neighboring states.

Iran is Turkey's second biggest gas supplier after Russia.

Turkey uses a significant portion of its imported Iranian natural gas to generate electricity.
