Chairman of Iran's Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani lashed out at the Takfiri terrorists for creating a havoc in the Middle East, and said what the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) is doing in Syria and Iraq is reminiscent of the pre-Islam era.

"The moves made by the terrorists remind everyone of the pre-Islam era," Rafsanjani said in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Riyadh Hossein Sadeqi in Tehran on Sunday.

He noted that the ISIL terrorists ignore Islam's concepts and make inexperienced youth to commit un-Islamic and inhumane actions, and said, "The terrorist group's actions in the region have grown due to the differences among Islamic states."

Rafsanjani reiterated the role of the Islamic ulemma in the current sensitive situation, and said, "The collective efforts of all Muslim countries, specially Iran and Saudi Arabia, are needed to confront extremism."

In similar remarks last month, Hashemi Rafsanjani expressed regret that the terrorist activities and savage crimes of the ISIL are impairing the face of Islam.

"All the ISIL terrorist activities which is a clear example of an extremist criminal group are committed under the name of Islam and this is a serious threat to the Muslim world's reputation," Rafsanjani said in a meeting with a number of anti-drug officials in Tehran.

He further cautioned that the interests of all the world nations are threatened by terrorism, illicit drugs, tyranny and arrogance today, implying that a serious global move is need to confront these phenomena and stop their growth across the world.
