Head of the Department of Environment Masoumeh Ebtekar says no agreement has been reached for transfer of water from the Caspian Sea to the Central Plateau. “We do not agree with the idea anyway”.

While inspecting Laar Dam together with first vice president and energy minister, she told reporters that most of the present problems originate from mismanagement in this sector.

“We have rich water resources in the north of the country but in the field of wastewater no successful measure has yet been taken. Therefore consumption pattern should be implemented soundly.”

Ebtekar further remarked that water resources should be managed properly and consumption should be regulated as such the current problems would reduce as much as possible.

Stressing that at the moment the major problem is not observing a proper consumption pattern, the official said unfortunately in Tehran water consumption is two times more than the consumption pattern and in agriculture a major part of water resources is wasted.

“The problem will not be solved just through water transfer from one area to another as population rise in Tehran in its present form is not rational.”
