German news agency DPA said on Saturday that it has learned about the issue after a briefing of parliament’s Defense Committee by Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen.
The German government is considering the establishment of a military training center in the city of Erbil, the capital of Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, the report said.
Germany’s army is currently providing Kurdish Peshmerga forces with weapons and showing them how to use the arms for training both in Kurdistan and in Germany. Thirteen German soldiers are now in Erbil for this mission.
The European country is now considering comprehensive training in northern Iraq for Christians and Izadi Kurds battling the ISIL terror group.
European countries, including Germany, have repeatedly expressed concern over the ISIL's influence across the continent. Authorities fear that the European militants will use their combat skills against their countries upon returning home.
Iraq has been fighting the ISIL terrorists since they took control of Mosul on June 10. The terrorists currently control parts of Syria and Iraq.
The ISIL terrorists have committed heinous crimes and threatened all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians and Izadi Kurds, during their advances in Iraq.
Observers say that the rise of ISIL Takfiri threat can be directly attributed to the policies of Western countries, including France, in the Middle East region.
