During the ceremony on Tuesday evening, which was attended by Belarusian Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei and a number of foreign ambassadors, Zarif hailed bilateral relations between Tehran and Minsk as very close.
“The Embassy is a symbol of ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Belarus, which have had very good relations in the past and will also experience further expansion of ties in future and these ties will serve the interests of the people of the region and their peace and stability,” Zarif said at the ceremony.
“We enjoy good relations with Belarus in political, cultural and economic areas,” he said, adding, “Today, we agreed to deepen the relations by Belarusian President's visit to Tehran, which will take place in the near future.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Zarif had met with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, holding talks on a whole host of issues, including ways to strengthen bilateral relations.
During the meeting, the two sides also exchanged views on the latest developments in the region and the world.
