Rouhani urges shutting down of unsafe mines

Politics - Mines lacking sufficient and safe equipment should be closed in order to prevent recurrence of deadly incidents like the explosion in the coal mine in Azadshahr, President Rouhani said on Sunday

“We need to use modern technologies. If a place lacks enough equipment and is not safe, we should stop the activities of the industrial unit,” Rouhani said, talking to family members of the victims of the deadly incident in northern Iranian province.

The government will try its best to prevent such incidents, the President added.

Rouhani said that when the loved ones are lost, nothing can fill their empty place.

“Material loss is reparable, but human loss is irreparable,” he said.

At least 26 miners were killed in a huge explosion in the Zemestanyurt coal mine on Wednesday.

Zemestanyurt coal mine in Azadshahr region is situated 90 km east of the provincial capital city of Gorgan.

Provincial officials have announced three days of mourning for the victims of the incident.
