Iranian Ambassador to Malaysia Marzieh Afkham announced on Saturday that preparations have been done for the presence of Iranian nationals in the upcoming presidential election in three regions of the country.

 the envoy said that Iran's May 19 presidential election will be held in four polling stations in Kuala Lumpur and two other stations in Johor and Penang.

The Iranians residing in Malaysia can cast their votes from 9 a.m. till 7 p.m. local time, she added.

The diplomat noted that further information about the location of the polling stations will be released on Monday.

Afkham expressed the hope for huge turnout of the people in this round of presidential election, adding that ground is ready for holding a free and secure election.

All Iranian compatriots with the aim of participation in determining their country’s future through participation in the presidential elections may go to the polling stations on Friday May 19, 2017 and caste their votes.

Ebrahim Raeisi, the custodian of Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine, Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri, Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, former minister of culture and Islamic guidance Mostafa Mirsalim and former minister of physical education Mostafa Hashemi Taba, as well as President Hassan Rouhani are the six candidates to compete in the forthcoming presidential elections.

After the 1979 Islamic Revolution which led to the fall of the Pahlavi regime, Iran has held one election each year on average, all of which have witnessed large turnout of the people.

Over 56 million Iranians are eligible to vote in Iran's 12th presidential elections, according to Ali Asghar Ahmadi, head of the Election Headquarters of the Interior Ministry.
