President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday hailed Islamic Revolution Guard Corps’ (IRGC) targeting positions of the Deash terrorists in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, saying that the move was correct, timely and necessary.

President Rouhani made the remarks while addressing a gathering of scholars and clergymen in an Iftar (fast breaking) ceremony on Tuesday evening referring to IRGC's crushing response to the Daesh Takfiri terrorists.

IRGC carried out a missile attack against headquarters and logistics of the Takfiri terrorists in Deir Ez-Zor, the largest city in eastern Syria, on Sunday night to punish perpetrators of the recent terror attacks in Tehran.

After the Takfiri terrorists' June 7 attacks in Tehran which left more than a dozen killed and many more wounded, the IRGC had announced that the shedding of innocent blood will not go unanswered.

“During the operation, a number of surface-to-surface mid-range missiles targeted Takfiri terrorists from IRGC's bases in Kermanshah and Kordestan provinces, in western Iran,” said a statement by the IRGC after its missile attacks.

“Iran’s approach regarding regional and global issues has not changed, but if a group wishes to harm Iran’s glory, it will receive a crushing response. The Islamic Republic will continue its path with grandeur and dignity,” stressed the President.

Commenting on the national issues, he said, that national issues 'are not factional; rather they belong to the whole nation.

“National interests, national security and the Constitution as well as the Supreme Leader are not factional issues. Even the government is not a factional issue, although a government may come to power with the help of a particular party, when it is elected trough public votes, it belongs to all and all are duty-bound to support it.'

He added, “All of the parties are united when it comes to national security/ The IRGC’s missile attack on Daesh positions in Deir ez-Zor was not a decision taken by a particular person or group; rather such decisions are taken by the Supreme National Security Council.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, President Rouhani stressed that Ulema (religious scholars) shoulder a heavy burden in explaining Islamic tenets and bringing the young generation closer to religion.
