South Africa is of great economic importance to Iran, said Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif in the South African capital on Monday.

Zarif is currently in Pretoria, South Africa on the first leg of an African tour which began on October 22 and will later take him to Uganda and Niger.

Iran enjoys a good investment security, he said while addressing Iran-South Africa Business Forum that kicked off in Pretoria on Monday.

Mohammad Javad Zarif and South African Minister of Small Business Development Lindiwe Zulu attended the forum which was held in South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Economic and commercial issues as well as obstacles on the way of expansion of trade ties betweeen the two countries are to be discussed in the forum which will be followed by a meeting of the Iran-South Africa joint commission.

After the anti-Iran sanctions were removed, new perspectives were created for expansion of Iran's ties with other countries, Zarif said while referring to the lifting of anti-Iran sanctions after the implementation of the landmark nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

He added that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will have a visit to South Africa in a few months.

Meanwhile, the South African minister said that cooperation with Iran will be safe.

She added that Pretoria is after promotion of banking relations with Tehran.
