Iran has never asked Tunisia to mediate between Tehran and Riyadh, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.

'The Islamic Republic of Iran has never made such a request, and such reports are dismissed as incorrect,' Bahram Qasemi said in response to a question on the claim made by the Kwaiti daily Al-Jarida.

The newspaper claimed that Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has asked his Tunisian counterpart Khemaies Jhinaoui to act as a mediator in Tehran-Riyadh dispute.

Tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia have been escalated in recent weeks due to anti-Iran allegations made by Saudi officials.
