The leading newspaper “Times of India” in an atcile titled 'Iranian President supports India's aspiration for a permanent seat in UNSC', quoting Rouhani wrote 'Why India with a population of over 1 billion doesn't enjoy veto rights and why does the US have veto rights? Five countries who had atomic bombs were given the right of veto.'
“Reflecting the deepening of ties between the two countries, visiting Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who held one-on-one and delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said energy and transportation were two great potentials for building strategic cooperation between Iran and India”.
Indian news channel “NDTV” also reflected on Rouhani’s visit to India, writing,' Iran has abundant oil and natural gas resources and is willing to share them with India for its progress and prosperity of (its) people,' Mr Rouhani said in Hyderabad. The Iran President also said he is hopeful that India will reciprocate by simplifying visa rules for Iranians.
NDTV added, 'Iran's President Hassan Rouhani met with senior Indian officials in New Delhi, including President Ram Nat Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Mody and Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj.
The “LiveMint” daily also covered Rouhani’s trip and wrote,' Both leaders held substantive & productive discussion on cooperation in trade & investment, energy, connectivity, defence & security & regional issues,” said a Twitter post by external affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar.
On Iran’s Nuclear deal (JCPOA), this Indian Media reflected, “Iranian president Hassan Rouhani on Saturday asserted that his country will adhere to the terms of the nuclear deal it signed with world powers till 'the last breath' and warned that the US will 'regret' if the pact was broken”.
Rouhani, while delivering an address in Delhi on 'The priorities of the foreign policy of Islamic Republic of Iran', said the time for 'haggling' by president Trump is over and negotiating after signing the deal is 'ridiculous'.
One day after the return of Hassan Rouhani to Iran, the “Indian Express” newspaper published images of the most important parts of his trip.
The photos included an official reception for Iran’s President in New Delhi, meeting of Rouhani and Modi, the walk of Iran’s President and Indian Prime Minister at the Hyderabad House, the venue for official visits, exchange of agreements, and so on can be seen.
“Daily Pioneer” newspaper also published, 'India and Iran on Saturday pledged to stop the forces of terrorism and extremism, delinking it from religion and agreed that there should be an end to terror sanctuaries even as the two countries broad-based their relationship by signing nine agreements, including one on connectivity relating to the strategic Chabahar Port.
Addressing a joint press event with Rouhani, Modi said the visit by the Iranian president shows how the two sides want to deepen cooperation in key areas, including connectivity.
'People of both India and Iran believe in peace and tolerance drawing from the values of Sufi philosophy. Taking into account our mutual benefits, we are both committed to stop the forces of terrorism, extremism, illegal drug trafficking, cyber crime and other international crimes,' Modi said.
President Rouhani described terrorism as a problem not only for the entire region but for the whole world saying, 'We must fight the roots of terrorism which are mainly intellectual and cultural stemming from promoting extremist, violent ideas and we are ready to cooperate with friendly countries, including India, in this field.'
President Rouhani arrived in India last Thursday for a three-day visit at the head of a high-ranking delegation.
The president's visit to India took place at the official invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who visited Iran last year.
President Rouhani was accompanied by Iranian ministers of foreign affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif, petroleum Bijan Zangeneh, road and urban development Mohammad Akhoundi, and industry Mohammad Shariatmadari.
A large delegation from Iranian private sector were also in India as part of President Rouhani's entourage.
During President Rouhani's visit, the two countries officials signed several agreements to expand relations between Iran and India in many fields.
