Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said we are in contact with officials in Tehran and Austria to get information on the recent attack on Iran envoy’s residence in the Austrian capital.

An attacker stabbed a diplomatic police officer at the residence of Iran's ambassador in Vienna, Austrian police said Sunday evening.

Qasemi told reporters on Sunday that the attacker was about 26 years old and apparently an Austrian citizen.

'The identity of the attacker and his intentions are yet to be known,' he said.

He expressed hope for the Austrian police and officials to complete investigations on the issue and to provide Tehran with more information on the identity and intentions of the attacker within hours.

He also referred to his phone conversation with Austrian ambassador to Tehran, saying the residence of the Iranian envoy has not been damaged and that the injured officer who was stabbed has been transported to the hospital.

Qasemi went on to say that the attacker is said to be a foreigner but with Austrian nationality.
We want the Austrian government to probe the case and to do more to protect the Iranian diplomatic mission and its buildings, he stressed.

The officer was injured in his arm, and the 26-year-old Austrian attacker from Tyrol state was shot dead, AFP reported

The police officer used pepper spray but had to shoot the attacker.

His reaction to kill the attacker was based on the rules, an Austrian Defense Ministry spokesman was quoted as saying.

Police has increased number of its forces at the attack site.
