Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami said on Wednesday that Daesh thought still persists.

Although the material bases of Daesh were destroyed through the efforts of Iraqi and Syrian armed forces with the all-out support from Iran and Russia, 'we are still distanced from the eradication of Daesh thought', the minister said.

He said that the structural and ideological similarities between Daesh and the new wave of fundamentalism in the world increasingly indicates that this global threat is undergoing fundamental changes.

The defeat of Daesh is actually the defeat of US regional policies and therefore a new round of hostilities and tensions are expected to occur in the region to fill the existing gaps, Hatami said.

As long as the main factors contributing to Daesh continue to persist, and invading countries continue to be armed by Western countries, particularly the United States, and as long as the US has chosen not to shoulder responsibility of its unwise policies in the international arena, the threat of terrorism is expected to emerge from another place, the minister added.
