Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed the need for broadening of cooperation between Tehran and Ankara at both bilateral and regional levels.

'Development and expanding cooperation between Iran and Turkey in various fields, including development of security, peace and stability in the region, in particular in Yemen... countering trans-regional countries' interference in the internal affairs of regional states and full-scale fight against terrorism are of great importance,' President Rouhani said in a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday.

The President also called for Muslim countries' joint efforts, in particular by Iran and Turkey, to resolve the Palestinian issue.

'The oppressed people of Palestine have the right to announce their will to return back their home, but the Zionist regime kills them,' he added.

President Rouhani called also for elevation of Tehran-Ankara cooperation in fields of fighting drug trafficking and organized crimes, tourism, banking, energy, transit and environment.

'There are large capacities for investment in Iran,' he noted.

President Rouhani arrived in Ankara late Tuesday at the head of a delegation to attend a trilateral meeting and confer with his Turkish and Russian counterparts on the latest developments in Syria.

The trilateral meeting of Iran, Russia and Turkey on the Syrian situation is scheduled to be held at the level of experts, foreign ministers and heads of states in the Turkish capital for two days.

The meeting is the second round of troika talks in continuation of Astana talks and Sochi summit which have been planned to help promote cooperation to find a solution to the civil war in Syria.

The first round of presidential-level talks convened in the Black Sea resort of Sochi in November.
