Iran's minister of industry declared on Monday that given the country's 200-billion-dollar trade with the world in the past year, it can be a good trade partner for Uzbekistan.

Iran and Uzbekistan have always enjoyed good relations throughout their diplomatic relationship, Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Shariatmadari said in the 12th meeting of Iran-Uzbekistan joint economic commission.

Uzbekistan's policy towards their neighbors and other Central Asian countries has been similar to that of Iran, and this can bring the two countries closer together, he said.

Noting that Iran has high potentials in designing, engineering and manufacturing industrial equipment, as well as in petrochemical industry, he said that the neighboring countries can benefit from such capabilities.

Iran is producing 96 percent of its needed medicine, and has launched pharmaceutical manufacturing plans in other countries of the region as well as exporting its products to them.

A number of Iranian cars are also being manufactured in some neighboring countries, the minister said.

He also called for tourism and banking cooperation between Iran and Uzbekisan, expressing hope that grounds would be prepared to open chambers of commerce in the two countries.

Shariatmadari said Iran is ready to cooperate with Uzbekistan on agricultural machinery, electricity transmission, construction material and wind, solar and hydroelectric power plants.
