Iran FM calls for continuation of political trend on Syrian issue

Politics - Criticizing foreigners; intervention in Syria, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underlined the importance of continuing political trend on the Syrian crisis.

Zarif is in Moscow to take part in a trilateral meeting on Syria with his Russian and Turkish counterparts.

The meeting is being held to oppose any military action against Syria's territorial integrity; Zarif told reporters upon his arrival at Moscow airport.

Referring to various meetings which have so far been held among Iran, Russia and Turkey on the Syrian issue, Zarif said we could start a trend to de-escalate tensions on the spot and find a political solution to the Syrian issue.

The recent measures taken in Syria, especially military actions by the US and its allies, which made the situation more complicated has weakened the possibility of reaching a political solution.

The US together with its allies, the UK and France, targeted the Syrian capital city of Damascus on April 14.

The US attack on a military base in Homs, western Syria injured 3 civilians, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) earlier reported.

The media affiliated with the terrorists had claimed that the Syrian jet fighters conducted a chemical attack on Douma last Saturday killing 75 people and injuring scores of others.

This is while Syria had earlier warned against terrorists’ attempts to orchestrate chemical attack scenario in Eastern Ghouta.

The situation made foreign ministers of peace guarantor countries to gather to review solutions to Astana and Sochi on Syria crisis.

As one of the biggest victims of chemical weapons, Iran is against any use of such arms, Zarif reiterated.
